Arab Street
is a historical neighbourhood in Singapore that is home to many independent shops operating out of shophouses. It is often said that long ago the area was owned by an Arab merchant and that it was the site of an Arab kampong, hence the name Arab Street - but there are other theories, the truth having been lost in time. As well as some of Singapore's most well-known independent boutiques found along Haji Lane, the area is also known for its many cafes and traditional shops selling spices, textiles and flowers.
